Once upon a time, there was a little white Jewish boy from the suburbs.
He sang and danced, loved to perform and had a dream.
When asked what he wanted to be when he grows up, he smiled a smile so bright
and answered with conviction and courage...
"I want to be the white Ben Vereen!!"
Yes, I had the opportunity to meet one of my idols! Mr. Ben Vereen is one of this country's greatest performance treasures.
He was kind enough to collaborate with Eastern Michigan University on a show paying tribute to the men and women of WWII who participated in making the
Tuskegee Airmen an integral part of America's victory in that war. It was a huge thrill for me to meet him and tell him about my dream as a young boy to be him!
This meeting was made possible by a great friend of mine who was the house manager and the glue that kept the show together. Pam Cardell invited me to the show and invited me to the reception following the show
honoring Mr. Vereen (or Ben as he likes me to call him!). Thank you Pam!! to go back to the Special Events page.
